If you have an 8-day (1 week) clockwork, the clock weights should be pulled up once a week. If you have a 1-day movement, the clock weights should be pulled up once a day. Please do not operate the off-on lever/stick while the cuckoo is calling or music is playing! In this position, the cuckoo call and music is totally shut-off. ↙ Down position - Manual Off: If the shut-off lever is in the bottom position or the stick on the bottom of the case is pulled all the way down. In this position, the cuckoo call and the music is discontinued from 9:00 PM to 8:00 AM. ↤ Middle position - Automatic: If the shut-off lever is in the horizontal position or the bottom stick is in the middle position, the clock is in the fully automatic position. ↖ Up position - Manual On: If the shut-off lever is moved all the way up or the stick on the bottom of the housing is pushed all the way up your clock is in the operating position. You can use it to control the cuckoo call and the music as follows: The on-off switch lever is either located on the left side of the housing or a stick is located on the bottom of the clock case. The cuckoo and music are turned off automatically as soon as it gets dark. Quartz clocks have a light sensor on the outside of the clock case. During the night, the clock operates normally but the cuckoo and music are off between 9pm and 8am. Most of our 8 day clocks with music are equipped with an automatic night shut-off feature. To turn the cuckoo call off, flip the switch up. If the switch for the manual switch-off is in the down position, in most cases the cuckoo will call day and night. In most cases, the cuckoo call can be turned off manually using a switch on the side or underneath the clock case. Cutting the chains will void the clock's warranty.Learn how to set-up your Cuckoo Clock, German Incense Smoker & German Christmas Pyramid How to get your Cuckoo Clock Started Naturally you could also use up more of the extra chain by hanging it further up - on one of the links of the chain - rather than on the ring.Īgain, obstructing the fall of the weights will cause the clock to need more frequent windings. This will prevent the chain with the ring from touching the floor and it prevents the chain from getting in the way of whatever is below the clock. In the following picture you can see how to hang the chain with the ring onto the extra bit of hook. As the clock runs the weight will gradually drop while the ring end gradually rises to the clock. Here the weight is hung on the end of the chain with the hook. In this picture you can see the difference between the two ends. The best way to do this is to simply hang the ring end of the chain onto the hook end. If the owner of the clock does wish to hang it over something he or she may want to secure the chains somehow so that they don't interfere. It simply means that you will have to wind the clock more frequently. The answer is no, you will not harm the clock, but obstructing the fall of the weights will stop it from running the full 1 or 8 days. "Will it harm the clock if I hang it over a table or sideboard?" New clock owners frequently ask if they have to allow the weights to fall freely to the floor for the full 5-6 ft. The weights fell through the floor into the room below and added a longer running time for the clock. In fact, visitors can see where, in Thomas Jefferson's home at Monticello, Jefferson cut holes in the floor to allow his clock to run longer. Every so often we want to hang a cuckoo clock (or any clock that is powered by weights) in a place where there might not be room for the weights to fall.
